About our classroom
Ladybirds class brings together Key Stage 1 (Reception, Years 1 and 2). Our teachers are Mrs Watson and Mrs Griffiths, and our teaching assistant is Miss Pinches.
Mixed age classes mean we can teach to stage not age. We are lucky to have a multipurpose space including our learning den. This allows us to work in small groups to focus on areas that meet individual learning needs. It’s out job in Ladybirds class to make sure your child, whatever their unique personality and needs, enjoys a positive start to school. We aim to promote a love of reading, creativity, independence and discovery.
What your child will learn
Each week we focus on phonics, early reading, mathematical concepts and understanding of the world around them. Lessons include plenty of opportunity for talk, play and creativity. We ensure lessons are accessible for all children.
We provide stability and familiarity by keeping a consistent timetable. This usually looks like:
- Registration
- Phonics
- Literacy
- Assembly, break and snack time
- Maths
- Lunchtime and afternoon registration
- Reading
- Afternoon activities including; Science, history/geography, PE, outdoor learning, PSHE, RE, music, art, DT & computing
Home learning
All year groups are expected to read their reading books daily. We also send home a book to share to encourage a love of reading for fun. Year 1 and 2 have weekly spellings related to their learning in class.

If you have any questions, please speak to Mrs Watson or Mrs Griffithis on the playground after school. We also invite parents to termly parents’ evenings where you can talk to your child’s class teacher in greater depth and see the work that your child has been doing in school.
