Dragonflies Class

Wistanstow CE Primary School

About Our Classroom

Dragonflies Class brings together Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6). Our teachers are Miss Martin and Mrs Cowper, and we are supported by Mrs Goode.

The Dragonflies class is a warm, welcoming mixed Key Stage 2 environment where the children are at the centre of everything we do. We pride ourselves on creating a nurturing and inclusive space where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. As a mixed-age class, we embrace the opportunity to foster peer learning, collaboration, and independence. Lessons are carefully planned to be both engaging and challenging, tailored to meet the needs of every type of learner — whether they need additional support or are ready to extend their thinking further. In Dragonflies, we celebrate individuality, encourage curiosity, and work together to build confidence and a lifelong love of learning.

What Your Child Will Learn

Our weekly structure includes a balance of core subjects and creative learning. Mornings are typically focused on English, Guided Reading, and Maths, while afternoons include topic-based learning such as Science, History, Geography, Art, DT, and PSHE. Children learn through a mix of whole-class teaching, small group work, and individual tasks, ensuring that every child is supported and challenged appropriately.

Home Learning

Parents can expect regular homework that reinforces classroom learning. This may include weekly spelling and maths tasks, as well as occasional topic-based projects. Homework should take approximately 20–30 minutes per task. We also encourage daily reading at home to build fluency and comprehension skills.
