Wistanstow CE Primary School

Our school is made up of two classes – Ladybirds and Butterflies. Ladybirds consists of Early Years and Key Stage 1 (Reception, Years 1 and 2), while Butterflies is home to Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6). This mixed-age approach is one of the things that makes our school special.

Having children of varying ages learning together enables us to focus on each pupil’s stage of development rather than their age. This approach ensures that every child is stretched and supported at a level that suits their individual ability. Older pupils build confidence and leadership by guiding younger learners, while younger children benefit from working alongside positive role models and often make swift progress through shared learning experiences.

Our small, caring school community ensures that every child is recognised, valued, and encouraged. Teachers plan thoughtfully to personalise each pupil’s learning journey, helping them to become independent, resilient learners who achieve their full potential.

Every class is taught by a dedicated teacher and supported by experienced teaching assistants, who work closely with individuals and small groups to enhance learning. You can discover more about each class by visiting their individual pages.
